Certifications & Awards

Since its inception in 1994, the Belas Country Club has stood out for its clear commitment to quality, infrastructure, real estate and golf, and to the environmental care involved in its design phase and later in the development phase. Urbanism, real estate, landscaping and golf have been developed according to best practices, have been certified and for this reason have been awarded over the years.


October 2000

Belas Country Club’s Golf Course received the environmental certification of the European Golf Association program “Comprometidos com o Ambiente” (Committed to the Environment).

November 2008

Belas Country Club was the first urbanization in Europe to audit all its housing and the only residential community in Europe to answer to the European Energetic Certification of Building directive.

May 2010

Belas Country Club received the certification in the LiderA system with the A+ Classification. This certification attests the buildings’ sustainability, covers the entire enterprise and was the first allotment of a Residential Urbanisation in full operation stage to get a LiderA Certification in the A+ Class.

February 2011

Belas Country Club Golf Course received the GEO (Golf Environment Organization) Certification, an international norm given for the first time in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula. This certification recognises the work developed since 1998 by Planbelas, S.A., the promoting company of Belas Country Club, for environmental sustainability, whose good practices not only fulfil the GEO’s most innovative requirements but also anticipate new environmental challenges in a commitment between playing golf and respecting the environment.

March 2004

“Mipim Architectural Review” Award chose the new 325 hectares of Belas Country Club masterplan in the category: “Urban Communities and Sustainability, with The Future Project Award 2004”.

November 2004

Belas Country Club was awarded Best Developing Real Estate by the professionals at “Salão Imobiliário de Lisboa”.

April 2006

Belas Country Club received the “Real Estate Oscar” from Revista Imobiliária (Real Estate Magazine).

2008 / 2009

Belas Country Club was chosen by “Peugeot Golf Guide” as one of the 100 Best Golf Courses in Europe.

June 2009

Planbelas received in recognition of the integration of economic, social and environmental dimension in its management, the Sustainable Development Award. This award that adopts the DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index) methodology, is in practical terms a certification that intends to identify and recognise the best national reference practices contributing to the country’s progress. Planbelas classified in 16th place nationally, being the only SME.

September 2009

Belas Country Club was awarded the national Prize “Mobility in Bicycles” in the “Companies” category by the Federação Portuguesa de Cicloturismo e Utilizadores de Bicicleta (Portuguese Federation of Bicycle Touring and Bicycle Users).

April 2011

National Geographic choses ten golf courses worldwide, certified by GEO, with the best environmental management practices, specially regarding water resources.

May 2011

Belas Country Club was considered the “Most Sustainable Private Residential Community in Europe”.

July 2012

Environment Engineer Pedro Teixeira, responsible for the Quality and Environment area of Planbelas, S.A., received the “Delegate of the Year 2012” Award from BCSD – Business Council for Sustainable Development, awarding the excellence management of the Jordan Group regarding sustainability issues.

September 2012

Belas Country Club Senior Open of Portugal, organized by the Jordan Group in 2011, won 2nd place in the Sustainable Golf Index, an index of responsibility of Between Us, which assesses the sustainability of the 82 European Tour tournaments worldwide.

As a way to recognise the work carried out in order to develop the area, the President of Sintra’s Council, Fernando Roboredo Seara, awarded André Jordan with the Municipal Merit Gold Medal.

Belas Golf Residence, L. 2B of Belas Country Club received an award in the category Sustainable Construction from SIL – Salão Imobiliário de Lisboa in the 2012 edition.

Planbelas, S.A. received the Acquisition Certificate of carbon credits equivalent to 1000 Coe regarding the compensation of Emissions in 2011.

The credits will revert to the project of mini-hydro plant “The Yunnan Weixi Gedeng Hydropower” located in China.
